Position Title: SAP iXp Intern - Front-End Performance Optimization Specialist
Location: Newtown Square, PA
Expected Start Date: January 2024
Contract Duration: 6 months
Work Hours: 40 hours per week
The SAP.com Digital Platforms team is looking for an Intern to assist the Speed Performance Monitoring Lead to collaborate with the design, development, and other operational leads for SAP‘s digital landscapes. Our on-going objective to improve the online responsiveness of our user-experience on desktop and mobile web browsers in support of the SAP.com 2023-24 Mobile-First initiative.
This role is responsible for assisting in the management of SAP.com and other digital entities including communications, content and assets for various areas of the global website and digital programs. The position provides a main point of contact for assigned requests, driving projects to completion through close collaboration with core platform team members, leadership, and assigned third-party agencies to ensure efficient and timely production of a high-quality digital customer experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Collaboration:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Back-End Developers, UX/UI Designers, and Product Owners, to align on performance goals and priorities.
- Communicate effectively to share insights, progress, and recommendations with team members and stakeholders.
Front-End Optimization:
- Collaborate with the Front-End Development team to optimize HTML, CSS, and JavaScript code for improved website speed and performance.
- Identify and address rendering bottlenecks, optimize critical rendering paths, and reduce page load times.
- Implement responsive design techniques to ensure fast loading on various devices and screen sizes.
Data Analysis:
- Utilize performance monitoring tools and data to analyze website speed metrics and identify areas for improvement.
- Generate reports and actionable insights based on performance data to drive optimization efforts.
- Work closely with the business leads or Data Analysts to correlate web performance data with user behavior and business metrics.
Performance Testing:
- Plan and execute performance tests using industry-standard tools to identify and resolve performance issues.
- Continuously monitor website performance and respond proactively to any anomalies or degradations.
Best Practices and Trends:
- Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices in Front-End Engineering and web performance optimization.
- Recommend and implement innovative solutions to enhance performance.

QUALIFICATIONS

- Understanding of web speed performance metrics; such as Core Web Vitals strategy and metric threshold requirements.
- Experience in Front-End Engineering with expertise in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and responsive design.

- Familiarity with web performance optimization techniques, web debugging and profiling tools, and best practices.
- Strong data analysis skills and, experience with performance monitoring tools and data visualization.

- General knowledge of Agile methodologies.

BASELINE KNOWLEDGE
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs; including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Basic familiarity with Internet technologies and how the web works.
- Visual design principles and commonly used tools for optimizing visual page elements; e.g.: images and media.
- Awareness of industry standard web speed performance tools; e.g.: WebPageTest.org, Google Pagespeed Insights, and Google Lighthouse.
- Experience using various modern browsers such as Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge.
- General knowledge of project management and, issue tracking and documentation tools; e.g.: JIRA, Confluence, MS Teams, Slack, etc.
TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE
A basic knowledge is required for this internship.

The targeted combined range for this position is 17-53 USD.
