Meet the team:
The Communications team is a hub for creativity, big ideas, strong opinions, and approaches that challenge the norm. The Global Communications Team works closely with colleagues in HR, operations, sales, marketing, policy, finance, and engineering, as well as with outside stakeholders. This role will lead strategic communications in one of our seven regions – North America - which encompasses the US and Canada.
Who you are, what you'll do:
We’re looking for a seasoned technology communications leader who majors in cutting edge communications – earned, owned, paid, influencer and social – to help lead and evolve our team. You love driving change, have a positive, collaborative spirit, keep an eye on external trends and opportunities, and have a proven ability to recognize activity vs impact. Working in a fast-paced, sometimes ambiguous environment, with demanding stakeholders, you’ll be responsible for a 10+ person communications team as well as an extended network of other communications professionals and agencies. The leader of this established team is responsible for the all-up communications plan for North America with an emphasis on our customer success organization, spanning media and influencers, executives, customers and partners, and employees. You will collaborate with leaders from other regions to architect dynamic communications campaigns and strategies that translate our global vision across local markets with a unified voice. Sitting within the regional communications team, and part of Global Communications, this team is critical for helping position SAP as a leading global enterprise cloud and AI company, winning new customers and attracting top talent for generations to come.
Key Objectives:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive external communications strategy to enhance SAP's corporate reputation in the US and Canada and support our customer success organization.
- Lead smart, strategic media relations in partnership with colleagues across SAP.
- Drive thought leadership initiatives, positioning SAP as a leading voice in business transformation, cloud and AI conversations.
- Increase awareness and generate interest in SAP's cloud solutions for organizations of all sizes and across industry verticals.
- Ensure effective executive communications for the regional president and other company leaders that motivate, retain, educate and inspire our people and outside stakeholders.
- Cultivate a high-performance, data-driven culture within the communications team, fostering growth, collaboration, and innovation.
- Implement new programs that center around customer storytelling.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and inspire a diverse team of communications professionals, promoting continuous professional development and a culture of excellence, collaboration, recognition, and growth.
- Develop and execute impactful executive communications strategies, including speeches, presentations, and messaging, to amplify the voices of senior leaders and effectively engage internal and external stakeholders.
- Embrace an integrated approach to communication. Champion innovation within the communications function, constantly exploring new ideas and channels to help SAP stories travel further and reach new audiences, thereby increasing awareness of the company and its solutions.
- Drive integrated, 360-degree communications campaigns, leveraging a variety of channels and formats to engage existing and new influencers while ensuring alignment with overall business goals.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends in the communications field, assess their potential impact, and implement relevant tools and practices to enhance communication effectiveness and measurement.
- Foster a strong KPI-driven culture within the team, establishing key performance indicators, prioritizing initiatives, and regularly reporting results to stakeholders.
- Act as a trusted advisor to executive and non-executive business partners, with an emphasis on our customer success organization, providing strategic counsel and communications expertise to support their objectives.
What you bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, or a related field.
- Experience in communications leadership roles, preferably within the enterprise software/cloud services industry.
- Proven track record of building and nurturing collaborative relationships across diverse teams and stakeholders, including senior executives.
- Extensive knowledge of current and emerging communications tools, platforms, and social media channels.
- Experienced people manager, who has successfully managed people through transformation and change.
- Deep understanding of modern communications practices, including measurement, analytics, keynote speeches, building media programs and engaging in emerging trends.
- Demonstrated success in developing and implementing innovative communications programs that deliver measurable results.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and project planning skills, with a track record of executing complex initiatives on time and within budget.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to simplify complex ideas for diverse audiences.
- Ability to successfully interact with and credibly advise C-suite executives.
Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in communications, executive communications, or related fields.
- Demonstrated ability to distill complex ideas into compelling narratives, engaging stakeholders through impactful storytelling.
- Track record of successfully working with senior executives in a multinational, multicultural environment, providing strategic counsel, and managing potentially conflicting viewpoints.
- Comfortable navigating ambiguity and skilled in asking incisive questions to clarify objectives and drive alignment. Experience in crisis communications is a plus.
- Proven experience managing issues and demonstrating sound judgment in determining when and how to involve relevant stakeholders.
- Strong experience leading and developing high-performing remote teams, fostering a positive team culture and community.
- Proven approach to employee communications including measurement and metrics insights.
- Track record of owning end-to-end communications campaigns, from strategy development to execution, while effectively leading through influence.
- Location Remote but proximity to one of SAP offices in NY Hudson Yards, Newtown Square, Bellevue WA or San Francisco preferred.
