PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVE
The role will be responsible for all field legal issues for the Regulated Industries (RI) market unit in the North America Region, which transacts with the U.S. Federal Government, Aerospace and Defense Industries, State and Local Government Agencies, Higher Education, Healthcare and Public Utilities. Reporting to the Assistant General Counsel – Regulated Industries, the candidate will work collaboratively with approximately 5-7 legal professionals in support of the market unit’s on-premises and cloud software transactions.
The key accountabilities of the role are to:
- Participate in the overall strategy of the RI market unit as an integral member of the RI Legal team.
- Effectively structure, draft, and negotiate complex commercial agreements including enterprise software-as-a-service agreements, professional services agreements, data processing agreements, and non-disclosure agreements in support of sales teams.
- Support SAP’s corporate business goals and objectives by serving as a true business partner, balancing legal risks appropriately against the commercial objectives.
- Ensure the highest standards of integrity, ethics, and behavior.
- Promote a strong culture for the practice of preventative law with the legal function by identifying compliance and business risk and addressing appropriate training needs.
- Foster a philosophy and culture of seeking innovative solutions to legal and business issues

Given the nature of SAP’s business and the role of the Cloud LOBs and market units, you will be responsible for Business Partnering and Legal Support – coordinating provision of appropriate legal advice and support on data protection, privacy, intellectual property, competition law, regulatory matters and compliance amongst others. Given the specialized nature of the RI business, the role will require knowledge of, or the ability to develop, a strong working understanding of contracting practices prevalent in above mentioned RI business sectors, particularly those of the U.S. Federal Government, State and Local Government, and their political subdivisions.
EXPERIENCE
- 5-8 years of appropriate experience
- English fluency
EDUCATION
- Juris Doctor and admission to practice law in any of the United States or District of Columbia

Compensation Range Transparency: SAP believes the value of pay transparency contributes towards an honest and supportive culture and is a significant step toward demonstrating SAP’s commitment to pay equity. SAP provides the annualized compensation range inclusive of base salary and variable incentive target for the career level applicable to the posted role. The targeted combined range for this position is 119,400 - 260,400 USD. The actual amount to be offered to the successful candidate will be within that range, dependent upon the key aspects of each case which may include education, skills, experience, scope of the role, location, etc. as determined through the selection process. Any SAP variable incentive includes a targeted dollar amount and any actual payout amount is dependent on company and personal performance.
